The East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club works to improve the lives of children in the community by providing for their social and physical needs. The community centre building received a much needed renovation and upgrade, expanding programs and facilities offered to the neighbourhood. The landscape surrounding the facility was upgraded with the planting of native species which enhance the adjacent woodlot ravine, providing additional habitat and encouraging birds, butterflies and insect life.
A well designed and detailed herb and vegetable garden area also encourages and teaches a healthy hands- on approach to gardening and food. Native shrubs and perennials that grow in both sunny and shady portions of the site are being used to educate children and adults alike about the use of native plant species.
